Not only is Magnus Hi-Tech committed to reaching the height of technology in its production capabilities, but also in the realm of Quality Assurance. Magnus utilizes a well-established yet dynamic Quality Management System (or QMS, click here to view the Quality Manual) and modern continual improvement methodologies to ensure its customers receive the highest quality products and services. The commitment to quality is further evidenced by the distinction between Quality Assurance and Quality Control, two departments each headed by its own member of executive management, an investment unheard of in a precision fabrication facility of this size. While the Quality Control Manager can ensure product meets the customer’s requirements, continually improve the production processes, and provide customer-required documentation in any format desired, the Quality Assurance Manager can focus efforts on continual improvement of the QMS, Lean/Six Sigma implementation, and customer focus.

The Quality Control Department uses modern equipment and techniques, enhanced by a wealth of knowledge and experience to ensure Magnus’ production processes are performing up to the stringent quality requirements of its customers. The pride of the QC Department is a fully automated Coordinate Measuring Machine (a Brown & Sharpe Global Image CMM with a 50” x 60” x 40” measuring envelope), capable of providing data analysis and measurement reporting. The CMM utilizes the same solid modeling inputs as the CNC production equipment, reducing lead time and ensuring continuity between production and inspection. The integration of these technologies is another example of Management’s commitment to quality rarely seen in this type of facility. Utilizing a variety of other equipment gives QC the ability to perform dimensional, thread Go/NoGo gaging, hardness, color and gloss, coating thickness, weld strength, and surface roughness measurements. All measurement equipment undergoes NIST-traceable calibration on regular intervals.

Magnus’ QMS, resulting certifications (click to view the ISO9001:2000 certificate and click here to view the AS9100B certificate), and Lean/Six Sigma implementation are not seen as marketing tools, but rather methods in which to be the best fabrication shop on the planet. Executive Management measures and monitors a long list of Quality Objectives, metrics describing QMS performance over a variety of criteria, including on-time delivery, product quality, proactive and reactive improvement activities, training, and customer satisfaction. These Objectives are regularly reviewed to ensure goals are being met and to initiate the necessary activities to improve performance. Data relating to Magnus’ performance to these Objectives is communicated to all employees, encouraging their involvement and input. All employees undergo training relating to the QMS, safety, and production control methodologies through a combination of classroom and on-the-job exercises. Strong emphasis is placed on employee empowerment to strive for continual improvement and ensure both internal and external customer requirements are met.
